Miami, FL (February 10, 2025)
The space between the goal posts just became more secure as The Miami Football Club announced today the signing of goalkeeper Bill Hamid.
Hamid, a former MLS goalkeeper and U.S. National Team Member, is best known for his nine seasons with D.C. United. Hamid first signed with D.C. back in 2009, becoming the first academy player to sign a professional contract with the club. When he made his professional debut in 2010, he became the youngest ever MLS goalkeeper to win a game.
For D.C. United, Hamid recorded 297 appearances across all competitions. One of his best seasons was the 2012 MLS campaign where the Virginia born goalkeeper had 88 saves. Throughout his time with D.C. United, Hamid recorded 95 clean sheets.
In 2013, D.C. United went on to win the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup in a 1-0 final against MLS side Real Salt Lake. Following his shutout for this performance, Hamid was also awarded the Man of the Match award.
In 2014, D.C. United finished the MLS regular season atop the Eastern Conference table. Hamid for his part was incredible all year eventually earning the 2014 MLS Goalkeeper of the Year award.
In 2018, the goalkeeper left MLS to play for FC Midtjulland in Denmark before re-signing with D.C United. Following one final stint with D.C., Hamid switched over to the USL Championship, most recently with Memphis 901 FC before landing in the 305.
“First and foremost, I want to say thank you to Dario Sala, the team owners, and the coaches for their faith in me to be a part of their team. I look forward to helping the team achieve its objectives,” said Hamid. “The club has great plans, great ambition, and they want to win, so I will sacrifice everything and bring my experience to help my teammates and myself be at our best so we will win! We’ve got a fantastic group and a very strong coaching staff, with everyone together, great things are possible.”
On the international side, Hamid earned 8 senior caps for U.S. Men’s national team and played for the U18s and U20s before training with the senior team in 2009. He made his senior debut for the United States in 2012 in an exhibition match against Venezuela. Hamid kept a clean sheet for his debut game, with the U.S. winning 1-0. Hamid won the CONCACAF Gold Cup twice with the national team, in 2013 and 2017.
Notably, Hamid also joins his sister Jasmine Hamid in South Florida who is making her own mark on the professional side with USL Super League’s Fort Lauderdale United. The young forward is already impressing in Fort Lauderdale’s inaugural season with 4 goals and 2 assists, as well as claiming the USL Super League’s Player of the Month Award for December.
