Eight teams remain in the 2026 USL Cup, and on Wednesday night Miami FC heads to Texas with a place in the Semifinals on the line.
Miami will face San Antonio FC at Toyota Field in the USL Cup Quarterfinals as the competition officially enters its single-elimination stage. With no second leg and no margin for error, Wednesday presents Miami with an opportunity to take another major step in its Cup run.
The club earned its place in the knockout rounds with a strong finish to the group stage. Entering its final group match needing a decisive result, Miami delivered one of its most complete performances of the season with a 5-0 victory over Sarasota Paradise.
Mason Tunbridge opened the scoring from the penalty spot before Gerald Díaz and Arney Rocha extended the advantage before halftime. Jürgen Locadia and Daltyn Knutson added two more after the break as Miami finished the night with five goals and the result it needed to secure the tournament’s Wild Card berth.
Miami finished the group stage with three victories and 11 goals scored, the second-highest total among the eight teams that advanced to the knockout rounds.
Wednesday’s match also offers Miami an immediate opportunity to respond after Saturday’s narrow 1-0 defeat to Las Vegas Lights FC. Miami created opportunities throughout the match and pushed for an equalizer deep into the second half but was unable to find the finishing touch.
Now, the focus shifts entirely to the Cup.
Miami has reason for confidence heading back to Toyota Field. The club is unbeaten in its last four meetings with San Antonio, winning three before playing to a scoreless draw in Texas earlier this season on April 11.
With a place among the final four at stake, Miami enters Wednesday night knowing one result stands between the club and the USL Cup Semifinals.
KNOW YOUR OPPONENT – SAN ANTONIO FC
San Antonio FC enters the Quarterfinals after an undefeated USL Cup group stage that saw the Texas side finish atop Group 3.
SAFC secured its place in the knockout rounds with a 2-0 victory over Chattanooga Red Wolves SC at Toyota Field in its final group match. After a scoreless opening 44 minutes, Santiago Patiño broke the deadlock before Curt Calov doubled the advantage moments later.
San Antonio’s defense protected the lead throughout the second half to secure its third clean sheet of the competition and a second consecutive appearance in the USL Cup Quarterfinals.
San Antonio enters Wednesday following a 1-1 draw against Louisville City FC in USL Championship play over the weekend and will now turn its attention back to a competition in which it has yet to lose this season.
The Texas side reached this same stage of the competition in 2025, when its Cup run ended at Toyota Field against eventual champion Hartford Athletic.
HEAD-TO-HEAD
Miami FC and San Antonio FC have met once this season, playing to a scoreless draw at Toyota Field on April 11.
Wednesday’s meeting comes with much higher stakes, as the two sides return to San Antonio with a place in the USL Cup Semifinals on the line.
For both clubs, the equation is simple: advance and move one step closer to a trophy.
For Miami FC, a victory in Texas would secure a place in the 2026 USL Cup Semifinals and continue the club’s pursuit of silverware.
