Preview: The Miami FC Hosts Oakland Roots in Return to Riccardo Silva Stadium

Oct 25, 2019

MIAMI (October 25th, 2019) - Miami FC makes its long-awaited return to Riccardo Silva Stadium this Saturday night, when it will welcome the Oakland Roots to South Florida for the final regular season match of the NISA Fall Showcase. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.

West Coast History

Miami hasn't played against a team from the West Coast since 2017, when Miami visited the San Francisco Deltas and played to a 2-2 draw against the eventual 2017 NASL Champions. The Orange and Blue has played just four matches against teams from the Western Time Zone in its history, winning two matches, drawing two and losing one. Miami's goal differential in those matches is an impressive +6.

Truly Unbeatable

The Orange and Blue hasn't lost a match since the middle of May, embarking on an 18-match unbeaten streak since that loss. Miami has drawn with Atlanta SC in two straight matches, which snapped a previous club-record 16-match wining streak. This Saturday night's match is a chance for Miami to continue its unbeaten streak and start up a fresh winning streak.

Players to Watch

Dylan Mares is in the midst of a career year in 2019 and Miami's captain will once again be counted on to finish off attacks that venture into the final third.

Mares scored from the penalty spot in Miami's last match and provided the assist on Mo Thiaw's goal, both of which showcased his two-way ability to facilitate scoring opportunities for the team.

An attacking midfielder who can play out on the wing, inside or even further back, Mares' elite dribbling, passing and finishing abilities make him a dynamic one-man offensive army.

Ariel Martínez combines with Mares to form a top-tier attack; one that's versatile and can create scoring chances from midfield or higher up the pitch.

With his appearance in Miami's last match, Martínez overtook Daniel Vega as the club's all-time leader in appearances, in addition to being the club's all-time leader in assists.

When the initial plan isn't working, Martínez' wild card is a magical left foot that has contributed to an array of stellar strikes from long range over the years.

Looking Ahead

Miami FC will play the final match of the NISA Showcase as it will host the NISA East Coast Championship at Riccardo Silva Stadium on Saturday, November 9th. Miami will play either Atlanta SC or Stumptown Athletic, both of whom the Orange and Blue has faced twice this season.
