Keep Your Enemy Closer: Oakland Roots

Oct 24, 2019

MIAMI (October 24th, 2019) - The Miami FC makes its long-awaited return to Riccardo Silva Stadium on Saturday night, when it will welcome the Oakland Roots to South Florida in a NISA Showcase matchup. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.

Oakland Roots SC

The club was formed in 2018. It was originally slated to play in the NPSL, but the club ultimately withdrew and instead joined NISA for the inaugural season in 2019. The Roots are the first professional club to play in the San Francisco-Oakland region since the San Francisco Deltas in 2017. Roots home matches are played at historic Laney College Stadium.

Up and Down Beginning

The Roots generated a considerable amount of hype coming into 2019, but the team hasn't truly been able to translate it onto the pitch. Oakland sits last in the overall NISA standings with just three points earned from five matches. The Roots are yet to win a match in the NISA Showcase, but a come-from-behind draw last week should give them some momentum heading into Saturday's match against Miami.
