MILTON, GA (October 12, 2019) - Miami FC extended it’s unbeaten streak to 18 matches with a 2-2 draw with Atlanta SC. It was the second 2-2 draw between the sides in the last week. The result assures the Orange and Blue will end the NISA Showcase with the highest point total among east coast teams. Miami FC had previously clinched a spot in NISA’s East Coast Championship which will be held in November.

The match got off to a frenzied start as the Orange and Blue controlled the midfield early while Atlanta SC’s counter-attacking play was dangerous. In the 11th minute Molley Karpeh Jr. finished a chance after a sustained period of Atlanta SC pressure to put the home team ahead. Mark Pais had made an initial save on a shot but Karpeh calmly slotted home the rebound. The lead was short lived as a minute later Othello Bah broke down the left flank skillfully drawing a foul from Mohammed Lamin in the area. Dylan Mares then slotted the penalty kick home to equalize the match at 1-1.

In minute 19, Miami FC nearly took the lead after a beautiful through ball from Harrison Heath found Mo Thiaw but Jordan Bell made a fine save to keep the match level. The first half ended with the sides level at one.

The Orange and Blue controlled possession to open the second half, moving the Atlanta defenders side to side, creating space in the attacking end. Thiaw broke the deadlock in minute 58 finishing a chance created by Dylan Mares. The goal was Thiaw’s 4th in the last 3 NISA Showcase matches. In minute 65, second half substitue Ariel Martinez was inches away from doubling the Orange and Blue’s lead. Martinez delivered a curling free kick that Bell saved with his fingertips.

Prince Saydee equalized in Minute 69 for Atlanta with a spectacular goal from a tight angle on the right side. Atlanta had two chances to take the lead through Nazeen Bartman and Saydee but both opportunities produced shots that went wide of Pais goal.

In the dying minutes Mares served up a swerving free kick which Dario Suarez connected well with but hit over the crossbar. The match ended in a 2-2 draw.

Ariel Martinez broke the all-time Miami FC appearances record when he came on as a second half substitute. It was Martinez’s 89th appearance for the Orange and Blue. The previous record was held by Daniel Vega.

Mo Thiaw has now scored four goals in the last three matches and 14 goals this calendar year in all competitions.

Dylan Mares assist on Thiaw’s goal tied him with Martinez for the all time Miami FC lead with 31 overall.
