Preview: The Miami FC hosts Atlanta SC in NISA Showcase battle

Oct 4, 2019

MIAMI (October 4th, 2019) - Following a 2-0 road win over Stumptown Athletic, Miami FC returns home to face Atlanta SC on Sunday, October 6th. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. from Buccaneer Field at Barry University.

New League, Same Results

With the 2-0 victory against Stumptown Athletic in North Carolina, Miami captured its 16th-consecutive win across all competitions, a streak that dates back to May of this year.

Before joining NISA, Miami had played two seasons in the NPSL and won the National Championship in both seasons.

The Orange and Blue went unbeaten in 31 out of 33 matches during those NPSL seasons and is still unbeaten in NISA, accumulating an impressive +10 goal differential in three matches to this point.

O Captain, My Captain

Miami FC captain Dylan Mares is currently on a tear that not many other players in American soccer can claim to be on.

Following a two-goal, Man of The Match performance in Miami's victory over the New York Cosmos in the 2019 NPSL National Championship, Mares carried over his stellar form into NISA.

Through three weeks in the new league, Mares has picked up two NISA Player of the Week awards for his efforts in Miami's wins over Philadelphia Fury and Stumptown Athletic (on the road).

Mares has four goals and two assists through three matches in the NISA Showcase and will likely add more in this home matchup against a new opponent.

Players to Watch

Mohamed Thiaw scored his first goal of the NISA Showcase in Miami's 2-0 win over Stumptown this past weekend and he looks primed to continue his goalscoring ways as the season winds down.

In his debut season with Miami during the 2019 NPSL season, Thiaw tallied 10 goals and dished out nine assists in 17 matches for the team, announcing himself as a one-man offensive army.

Though his NISA Showcase season got off to a relatively slow start from a goalscoring perspective, Thiaw had notched an assist in Miami's inagural win and got on the scoresheet last Saturday.

Brenton Griffiths has been Miami's constant in a back line that has shifted several times this year due to an assortment of injuries.

Griffiths started 13 matches during Miami's NPSL Championship-winning season during the summer and has played all 90 minutes in each of Miami's three NISA matches.

The Spanish Town native has partnered with Callum Chapman-Page, Jalen Markey, John Neeskens and Lance Rozeboom at center back, but he has shown chemistry with every single one and anchored Miami's back four all year.

The Miami FC heads north to Georgia to do battle against Atlanta SC on Sunday, October 12th. Miami then makes its triumphant return to Riccardo Silva Stadium, where it will host the Oakland Roots on Saturday, October 26th. Get tickets to that match HERE!
