Keep Your Enemy Closer: Atlanta SC

Oct 3, 2019

Inauspicious Start

Atlanta SC started up its NISA career with a home date against Stumptown Athletic in the first match week of the season.

Stumptown came out hot, scoring the first three goals of the match, two of which came in the first half.

Atlanta struck back late in the second half with its first-ever goal on a well-worked offensive movement.

Atlanta was able to get over 20 total shots off, but only one of them (the goal) was on target. They will have to be more clinical in the final third against Miami.

Players to Watch

Sheriff Suma is one of the more distinguishable names in the National Independent Soccer Association.

A 32-year-old veteran who has played all around Europe, Suma has been with Atlanta since 2017.

A supremely versatile player, Suma is a natural left winger but has started matches in attack, midfield and defense for Atlanta over the years.

Suma enjoyed a standout national team career with Sierra Leone, notching 31 caps and scoring four goals for his native country.

Goalkeeper Jordan Bell is Atlanta's anchor on the back line as the team's captain.

A star at Upper Iowa University, Bell coached alongside Mark McKeever at Young Harris College before recovering from a torn ACL and joining Mississippi Brilla.

Bell was a key figure for Mississippi, captaining the PDL side for three seasons and parlaying his time there into a move to the Des Moines Menace in 2019, who were coached by McKeever.

With the Menace, Bell was able to capture the USL League 2 regular season title.
