The Miami FC wins 16th successive match to remain atop the NISA Showcase

Sep 28, 2019

PINEVILLE, NC (September 28, 2019) - The Miami FC won its 16th straight match in all competitions and remained atop the NISA Showcase table with a hard fought 2-0 win over Stumptown Athletic at CSA OrthoCarolina Sportsplex on Saturday night. Goals from Dylan Mares and Mo Thiaw lifted the Orange and Blue in the club’s first-ever away NISA Showcase match.

The flow of the match was even until about minute 25 when Miami began to assert control over the flow of play. Mares' opener was a left-footed cracker from distance set up by Ariel Martínez. The assist was Martinez’s 20th of his Miami FC career, a new club record. Mares' goal was his fourth of the NISA Showcase campaign and the Orange and Blue skipper’s sixth in the last four matches - including a brace in last month’s NPSL National Championship victory over the New York Cosmos.

Second half substitute Thiaw doubled the Miami advantage in minute 61, carefully placing a beautifully laid off ball in the area from Mares into the back of the net. The assist tied Mares with Martínez for the club’s all-time lead. Both Harrison Heath and Brian James had late opportunities to add a third.

Central defender Jalen Markey was sent off in minute 86 for a second yellow card. Goalkeeper Mark Pais made a succession of big saves late to preserve Miami FC’s clean sheet.
