MIAMI SHORES, FL (September 22, 2019) -  The Miami FC soared to the top of the NISA Showcase standings with a 2-1 victory over Stumptown Athletic at Barry University Sunday night. Goals from Brenton Griffiths and Ariel Martínez sandwiched an effort by Stumptown’s Donald Benamna.

The Orange and Blue opened the first half strong, controlling possession early. The Miami FC built from the back and created some good opportunities early. Griffiths' goal in minute 21 put Miami ahead after some excellent build up play involving both Martínez and Dylan Mares. Following the goal, Stumptown found joy pushing the ball down the flanks and creating space in the attacking end. In minute 35, Benamna knocked home a ball perfectly served by Jalen Brown. The match reached halftime deadlocked at 1-1.

The Miami FC started the second half with quicker passing and movement going forward. The Orange and Blue were effective building from the back in the early part of the second half, whereas Stumptown countered with very precise over-the-top diagonal balls, utilizing the length of the field and creating attacking movements going forward. Both teams had several opportunities to take the lead between minutes 46 and 65. Miami had a goal disallowed in minute 63 on an interference call and Stumptown had a penalty shout a few minutes earlier that was denied.

The Orange and Blue won the match on a curved ball to the far post by Martínez from a dead ball that was flicked on by Suárez in minute 70. Miami was able to maintain the bulk of possession and deny Stumptown any real good looks on goal late on to finish out as 2-1 winners in a cagey affair.

With the victory, Miami FC moves atop the NISA Showcase table with six points from two matches and a plus-eight goal differential.
