Miami’s Most Successful Professional Soccer Team Ever Will Participate In Sanctioned Professional League This Fall
Aug 19, 2019

MIAMI (August 19, 2019) – The Miami Football Club, Miami’s most successful professional soccer team ever, fresh off the back of winning another National Championship, announced today that it will participate in the National Independent Soccer Association (NISA) when the sanctioned professional league launches this coming September.

Miami FC CEO Sean Flynn said: “Today’s announcement marks the return to full-time, sanctioned professional soccer for The Miami FC.  We are proud that in just four short years, we have become one of the most successful professional soccer teams in the US Soccer landscape. We are prouder too that in that time we have established deep roots in Miami by investing in soccer in this City, through the team, a multi-million dollar investment in Riccardo Silva Stadium and, more recently, by investing in a Youth Soccer Academy.  We are committed to soccer in this city and our participation in NISA is an exciting new chapter for us”.

The Miami FC originally began play in the North American Soccer League in 2016, capturing the NASL Spring Season and Fall Season Championships the very next season. The club then moved to the NPSL, winning the Sunshine Conference, South Region and National Championships in year one. The Miami FC then repeated the feat this season capturing all three trophies for a second time.

NISA recently announced that it will field professional clubs in Atlanta (GA), Baton Rouge (LA), Charlotte (NC), Orange County (CA), Los Angeles (CA), Connecticut, Philadelphia (PA), Providence (RI), San Diego (CA) and Miami (FL). The league released a fall 2019 schedule, with a full season which mirrors the international soccer calendar and runs through the spring each year.

Addressing the concerns over The Miami FC joining its third league in such a short span, Flynn added: “Our fans, supporters and corporate partners are fully aware of the challenges we’ve faced since the NASL was de-sanctioned, and I want to personally thank everyone for sticking with us.  The constant throughout all of this change has been our commitment to winning championships and being an exemplary community partner, no matter which league we are in”.

The Miami FC’s inaugural NISA match is set for Sunday, September 15 at 7 p.m. at Barry University when the Philadelphia Fury makes its first trip to Miami. The highlight of the Fall Season schedule is the much-anticipated return to Riccardo Silva Stadium, Saturday October 26 at 7 p.m. against Oakland Roots.
