Preview: The Miami FC Faces Off Against Miami United FC in Sunshine Conference Final

Jul 12, 2019

MIAMI (July 12, 2019) - Following a decisive triumph in the Sunshine Conference Semifinals, Miami FC will host Miami United FC in a much-anticipated Sunshine Conference Final. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. on Saturday, July 13 at Buccaneer Field, on the campus of Barry University.

A Bitter Rivalry
Miami FC and Miami United have met in NPSL action four times over the past two seasons, and each match has been tightly contested and fiery.

Both matches last season ended in 1-1 draws and included nine yellow cards and four red cards.

In the first match of this season, Miami beat United 2-0 with goals from Tomás Granitto and Darío Suárez, but United bounced back the following week with a 2-0 home victory of its own.

Accustomed to playing against each other and unwilling to fold to their rivals, both teams will come out guns blazing on Saturday night.

On the Proper Path
With five trophies to its name, including last year's NPSL National Championship, Miami FC has set high standards for itself on the field.

Over the past nine matches, the Orange and Blue has shown off its dominant presence by winning each of its matches.

During the nine-match winning streak, Miami has scored a whopping 50 goals and allowed a modest three goals.

With six clean sheets kept during that span, Miami has proven its eliteness in both phases of play.

Claim to the Throne
Miami technically ended the regular season as the second-best team in the NPSL, behind only the New York Cosmos in points per matches played.

Despite that, the numbers help make a case for the Orange and Blue as the most complete team in the 91-team league.

Miami finished the year with 48 goals scored, a mark that was bested only by FC Golden State – who played eight more matches than Miami.

The Orange and Blue also ended the season with the same goal differential (+43) as the Cosmos, though Miami played four less matches than the New York club.

Players to Watch
Darío Suárez has followed up an impressive debut season in 2018 with a stellar second showing in 2019.

A year after pouring in 10 goals and prodiving two assists for the NPSL National Champions Miami FC, Suárez has scored 10 goals and dished out three assists in 12 matches this season.

That impressive goals per matches played ratio makes him one of the deadliest forwards in the NPSL, as do his team-leading 33 shots taken.

Quick-footed and deceptive when dribbling with the ball, Suárez combines a variety of key components to form himself into an offensive juggernaut.

Shawn Chin has once again proven to be a versatile and crucial piece for a team with a championship on its mind.

Though Chin has started in just three matches this season, he has appeared in 11 total and contributed a goal and two assists.

Consistently showing calmness on the ball and with an eye for defense-opening through balls, Chin has provided an assist in both of Miami's last two wins.

Capable of being deployed as a winger, center midfielder or right back, Chin's flexibility is critical in Coach Dalglish's system.

Looking Ahead
With a win over Miami United, the Orange and Blue would advance to the South Region Semifinal, against the winner of the Southeast Conference. The match is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, July 16 and will be played at Buccaneer Field at Barry University.
