Keep Your Enemy Closer: Miami United FC

Jul 11, 2019

MIAMI (July 11, 2019) - The Miami FC advanced to the Sunshine Conference Final following a victory over Jacksonville Armada FC and will now host Miami United FC for the Sunshine Conference trophy. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. on Saturday, July 13 at Buccaneer Field at Barry University.

A Worthy Adversary
Since the Orange and Blue joined the NPSL in 2018, Miami United FC has been its most fierce competitor.

Miami United finished third in the Sunshine Conference last season, with its 23 points slightly behind Miami FC's 27 and Jacksonville Armada's 24.

United repeated its third place finish in 2019, finishing with a better points per matches played number than last season, as well as more goals and a better goal differential.

A Shot at Redemption
Miami United has played the Orange and Blue more than close in every NPSL meeting between the two sides.

In four all-time matchups, the series is split at two wins and two draws apiece, and both teams have scored four goals.

United failed to advance to the Sunshine Conference Final last season and face Miami in the Final,

The Orange and Blue's rival is hoping to meet Miami FC in the Final this season, but it will have to get past Naples United first.

Players to Watch
Winger Jhon Montaño is a threat with or without the ball and a player Miami's defense must look out for.

Montaño's mix of height and blazing speed make him a tough player to mark.

Miami saw what Montaño is capable of when he went on a one-man counter attack in the second week of the season and tattooed Miami for the second goal of the match.

Peterson Occenat has historically been tough to beat for the Orange and Blue.

Occenat has kept clean sheets in half of his team's matches this season, including in a 2-0 home victory against the Orange and Blue back in April.

With good positioning sense and quick reflexes, Peterson makes it tough for opponents to find the back of the net from any distance.

Up Next
With a victory in the Sunshine Conference Final, Miami would go on to host a South Region Semifinal on Tuesday, July 16 at Buccaneer Field at Barry University. The opponent is yet to be determined.
