Keep Your Enemy Closer: Jacksonville Armada FC U-23

May 9, 2019

MIAMI (May 9, 2019) - The Miami FC returns to NPSL action on Saturday night, when it will take on Jacksonville Armada FC's U-23 squad on the road. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. at Patton Park.

Wholesale Changes
The 2019 season has brought about a variety of new faces to the Armada squad.

Following the departure of head coach Mark Lowry to El Paso, former Armada defender Aaron Pitchkolan has taken over on the touchline.

Jacksonville's 2019 roster features six players with prior Armada FC Youth Academy experience and nine current Youth Academy players.

There are also twenty former or current college players on the roster, including four upcoming freshmen.

An Ominous Start?
Jacksonville opened up its 2019 NPSL Season with a road match against Miami United FC. United dismantled the Armada and came away with a 4-0 victory.

Considering that Jacksonville and United drew in both matchups last season, the 4-0 loss could be a big concern for Jacksonville's chances going forward.

Jacksonville finished second in the Sunshine Conference last season, but it might prove tough to repeat that success with so much turnover on the roster.

Players to Watch
Kieran Roberts is one of several Armada newcomers, having just graduated from Radford University.

The Bournemouth, England native was named to the 2018 All-Big South First Team and is 7th in the program's history in goals scored.

A 6-0 forward who is versatile and has a keen eye for goal, Roberts will be leading Armada's new-look frontline against Miami on Saturday night.

Another dynamic player who was born in England, Ed Chappe will be a crucial cog in Jacksonville's midfield in 2019.

As a sophomore at the University of West Florida this past year, Chappe scored 10 goals, led his conference in points and was selected to the 2018 All-South Region First Team.

Though he's small-statured at 5-4, 140, Chappe is dynamic with the ball and isn't afraid to get stuck in on defense, which allows Pitchkolan to use him in a variety of ways.
