Preview: The Miami FC Travels North to Take On Storm FC

May 3, 2019

MIAMI (May 3, 2019) - The Miami FC will play its third NPSL match of the season on Saturday, May 4, when it will face off versus Storm FC. Kickoff is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. at Central Broward Stadium, also known as the Cricket Grounds.

Just Getting Started
The Miami FC began its 2019 NPSL Season on a high note, taking out rival Miami United FC in a 2-0 home victory.

It seemed as if the Orange and Blue was piggybacking off of its 2018 success, but United had other plans in Week 2.

Miami United used its homefield advantage and returned the favor, beating Miami FC 2-0 and evening the season series and conference standings.

The Orange and Blue will now look to get back on track and reclaim the top position in the Sunshine Conference.

Polar Opposites
Last season could not have gone any differently for Miami FC and Storm FC.

While Miami captured three trophies and won the National Championship, Storm FC finished last in the Sunshine Conference.

The Orange and Blue scored 30 goals and accumulated a plus-25 goal differential during the regular season, while Storm scored just a single goal and was minus-40 throughout 12 matches.

Miami is hoping to repeat the feats of 2018, and Storm is hoping for the exact opposite.

Players to Watch
Lance Rozeboom has proven to be a reliable and versatile cog in Coach Dalglish's system through two matches.

In Miami's last match, Rozeboom started out as a holding midfielder and transitioned to center back after halftime in order to fortify the defense.

His presence in central defense allowed Miami to quickly cut out counters and hold on to the ball. Miami United was held scoreless in the second half and Rozeboom was a main reason for that.

A return to midfield in what will likely be a more offensive match for Miami FC should lead to more possession and scoring chances coming by way of Rozeboom.

Mohamed Thiaw was a bright spot in last week's tough loss to Miami United.

The 6-2 striker consistently held up play or flicked on long balls and put Miami's attack in position to threaten the goal on several occasions.

His strength, touch and vision were on full display against Miami United, and he was the Orange and Blue's main source of offense.

Thiaw is yet to score this season, but Saturday could very well be the talented forward's breakout match in a Miami FC jersey.

Looking Ahead
The Miami FC will begin its 2019 Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup campaign, with a midweek home match against Florida Soccer Soldiers on Wednesday, May 8. The Orange and Blue then goes up i-95 to take on Jacksonville Armada FC on Saturday, May 11.
