Mar 6, 2019

MIAMI (March 6, 2019) - The Miami Football Club has finalized its Technical Staff for the 2019 season. The staff is led by Head Coach Paul Dalglish, who enters his second season. Dalglish’s first season with the club was nothing short of remarkable as he led The Miami FC to a Sunshine Conference title, a South Region championship and the NPSL National Championship, earning Dalglish Sunshine Conference Coach of the Year honors. The Miami FC finished the year with a combined 15-3-2 record and a staggering +40 goal differential. The club won 13 of its final 14 matches, including the final 10 in a row. Prior to joining The Miami FC, Dalglish starred as a player, coach and general manager with several clubs in North America and Europe.

Also returning to the technical staff this season is Assistant Coach Nelson Vargas, who complemented Dalglish in last year’s National Championship season. An accomplished soccer player, Vargas was drafted by the MLS' Tampa Bay Mutiny in 1996, and played there for two seasons. Vargas was then selected by the Miami Fusion in the 1997 MLS Expansion Draft, where he played for three seasons and made 54 appearances. Vargas had an impressive playing career in the U.S., having made four international appearances for the U.S. Men's Senior National Team. He also earned caps for the Under-17 and Under-20 teams.

A new addition to the staff includes Paul Crichton, who takes over as Goalkeepers Coach. A former professional goalkeeper, Crichton made over 280 appearances for Peterborough United, Doncaster Rovers, Grimsby Town and West Bromwich Albion from 1988 to 1998. During his time at Grimsby Town, Crichton won the Lincolnshire Cup three times and was named the Supporters Player of the Year in 1994. Crichton has served as Goalkeepers Coach for several notable clubs, including Brighton & Hove Albion, Norwich City, Sheffield United, Huddersfield Town, Blackpool and Queens Park Rangers.

Anthony Hazelwood also joins as an assistant coach, overseeing strength and conditioning for the club. Hazelwood previously spent time with the Fort Lauderdale Strikers U-20 club as Soccer and Sports Performance Coach, as well as with the Seattle Sounders FC as their Academy Sports Performance and Assistant Coach in 2017 and 2018. Most recently, Hazelwood served as the Director of Sports Performance for the Kendall Soccer Coalition.

On today’s announcement, Head Coach Paul Dalglish commented: “I am pleased with the staff that we have assembled here at The Miami FC in preparation for the 2019 season and the defense of our National Championship. I’ve said before that we want to foster a culture of winning here, and these coaches have won everywhere they’ve been in the careers. When you combine their experience and coaching acumen with the talent and skill we have with our players, we expect to continue having success on the field this year.”
