Miami, Fla. (April 1, 2016) - The Miami FC made their final addition to the inaugural 2016 roster with the addition of Hugo Leroux, international French defender. Leroux, who made it through the tryouts back in November, marks the 25th player to join head coach Alessandro Nesta and the club prior to the season opener against the Fort Lauderdale Strikers.

Leroux began his soccer career at the age of nine at the Montpellier Herault SC academy. For the next seven years, Leroux developed his skills and eventually worked his way up to the first team. In 2009, he joined the U-17s and made one appearance with the reserve team. The following year, he joined the U-19s where he made 4 appearances with the reserve team. Then in 2011 and 2012, he officially joined the Montpellier Herault SC reserve team for Ligue 1.

In 2012, Leroux made the move to Spain and joined CD Puertollano, where he made 12 appearances and notched one goal as a defender. In 2013, Leroux returned back to his homeland and joined RCO Agde, where he made 25 appearances, added one goal and three assists. Then, Leroux decided to make the move over to the U.S. where he achieved some career highs.

In 2015, Leroux joined PDL side FC Miami City, where he made 15 appearances, scored one goal and added four assists. That same year FC Miami City were crowned champions and Leroux won an award for being one of the top defenders in the league. Now, Leroux joins the Miami FC ahead of their inaugural match.

“I noticed something in Hugo back in November when he came to the open tryouts and I decided to keep him around to see what he could add to roster,” said Nesta. “He’s a strong defender and has proven himself over the past few months. I’m happy to bring him on board.”
