MIAMI, Fla. – After an intense 90 minutes at St. Thomas University, Miami FC lose their first match this preseason against the Jacksonville Armada FC with a final score of 2-1.
The Armada scored early on from just outside the box, with a goal from midfielder Junior Sandoval.
Pressure was added to the remainder of the first half and it set the mood for the rest of the match. Miami FC had great plays and created chances that kept them pushing forward.
Miami FC forward and NASL modern-era leading goal scorer, Pablo Campos, was fouled inside the box, and favored a penalty kick tying the game 1-1 with minutes left in the first half.
As the second half kicked off, head coach Nesta made a few substitutions, but kept goalkeeper Daniel Vega, who kept the momentum going throughout the 90 minutes.
A frustrated Jacksonville changed their whole lineup in hopes to create more opportunities. After a scramble in the box, Armada was granted a penalty kick. Forward Jemal Johnson scored in the 87th minute giving Jacksonville the 2-1 lead with just minutes to spare.
The scrimmage ended in a 2-1 loss for the Miami FC. However, head coach Nesta was rather pleased with the team’s performance.
“It is still the preseason and we have a lot to learn,” said Nesta. “I’m very happy with what I saw here today...we will be ready by the start of the season.”
The Miami FC continues their preseason preparation by hosting RAYO OKC on Saturday March 12th at 11a.m. at St. Thomas University.
