Miami FC Names Alessandro Nesta Head Coach

Internationally renowned soccer star will be leading Miami’s NASL soccer club
Aug 31, 2015

Miami FC, Miami’s sole professional soccer team, is pleased to welcome internationally recognized Italian soccer legend Alessandro Nesta as its head coach. Nesta, who is widely considered one of the greatest defenders of all time, will bring his immeasurable experience and leadership to Miami FC. The team will begin to play in the North American Soccer League’s 2016 season.

“We are incredibly thrilled to bring Alessandro on board with Miami FC,” said Paolo Maldini, Miami FC co-owner and former player for A.C. Milan and the Italy national team. “As a former teammate and personal friend of Alessandro, I have a great amount of respect for his talent and believe that he will bring out the best in our players.”

Nesta has led an impressive career over his years with a long list of accomplishments. Since his Serie A debut in 1994, Nesta ascended to the top ranks receiving numerous international awards and recognitions for his exceptional skills. From 2000 – 2003, Nesta was named Serie A Defender of the Year and was placed in the FIFA 100, a list chosen by Pelé dedicated to recognizing the best players in soccer history. In 2006, he reached the apex of his career when he was able to raise the World Cup alongside his Italian teammates. During his time with professional Italian soccer clubs Lazio and A.C. Milan, Nesta left an astounding legacy behind.

“I’m happy to say I’ve reached another exciting chapter in my career,” Nesta said, “and I’m privileged to be allowed the opportunity to help establish Miami FC and bring it to the forefront of the NASL.”

The creation of Miami FC was announced earlier this year as Maldini alongside sports and media entrepreneur Riccardo Silva teamed up as co-owners to bring Miami its very own soccer club. The mission of Miami FC is to connect with Miami’s communities through the global language of soccer.

With the addition of Nesta to the team, Miami FC continues to take shape as Maldini continues to assemble the club’s technical staff and roster.
