Preview: The Miami FC 2 Returns Home to Host Palm Beach United

MATCH NOTES

MIAMI (June 12, 2018) - After a lengthy and successful road trip, Miami FC 2 will finally return to its home ground for a two-match homestand. The first match is against Palm Beach United and will be played at Bobcat Field at St. Thomas University. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, June 13.

No Away Blues
The Orange and Blue is coming off a grueling four-match road trip that saw Miami travel to Palm Beach Gardens, North Broward, Boca Raton and Jacksonville.

Miami FC 2 brings home nine points from the trip, having beaten Palm Beach United, Storm FC and Boca Raton FC.

A frustrating 1-0 loss to Jacksonville shouldn't take away too much of Miami's confidence, as the Orange and Blue scored 13 goals throughout the four matches and gave up just a single goal.

Defensive Integrity
While Miami's attacking options usually get the headlines, it's the Orange and Blue's defense that has been stellar all season.

Its modest four goals allowed is tied for the best mark in the NPSL among teams with as many matches played as Miami FC 2.

With three clean sheets on the road, Miami's defensive unit was able to build confidence and gain form as the season nears its end and the playoffs loom.

Inaugural Matchup
In the first-ever match between Miami FC 2 and Palm Beach United, Miami came out on top in a 1-0 win.

Palm Beach United defended well and were able to counter-attack efficiently, but their final touches were lacking.

Miami controlled most of the match, enjoying a ton of possession, but many of their shots just couldn't hit the target.

A Don Smart goal from the penalty spot gave Miami a 1-0 lead that it would hold for the final 39 minutes of the match.

Players to Watch
Dylan Mares is enjoying yet another fantastic season in Miami.

Since joining the Orange and Blue in 2017, Mares has been one of Miami's most consistent and effective contributors, and this season has been more of the same from the former Indy Eleven man.

The box-to-box midfielder uses his relentless motor to optimal use, working as Miami's primary means of production on offense and providing cover on defense when needed.

Mares has tallied four goals and an assist this season, and he leads the team with 19 shots taken.

Sean McFarlane is what many sports fans call a "swiss army knife".

The FIU product has played in virtually every position except goalkeeper in his first season with the team.

His strength, speed, athletic ability and technical ability allow for McFarlane to seamlessly jump into any position on the field at any time.

With changes and injuries turning the roster over throughout the season, McFarlane has been counted on to help Coach Dalglish ease some of the burden, and he has answered the call with great aplomb.

Looking Ahead
The Miami FC 2 hosts Storm FC for its second-consecutive home match on Wednesday, June 20. The Orange and Blue then heads to the road for an away match against Naples United FC on Wednesday, June 27.
