Jul 14, 2017

MIAMI (July 14, 2017) – The Miami FC closes out the 2017 Spring Season with its first road trip to San Francisco for a rematch with the Deltas. Kickoff is set for 10 p.m. EST, so tune into The CW South Florida or Twitter to watch the action live.

One for the Ages
A week ago, the Miami FC took the pitch against the San Francisco Deltas at Riccardo Silva Stadium with a chance to make history and that they did.

The Orange and Blue would go on a goal scoring spree ending the night with seven and setting a new franchise record.

Just 15 minutes into the match, Miami had already built a 3-0 lead. A scuffle would break out a few minutes later and ended with the Deltas going down to 10 men and Miami going into halftime up 4-0.

The Orange and Blue would go on to net three more goals and see its first-ever four-goal performance, thanks to forward Stéfano Pinho.

The night culminated in the Miami FC lifting its first piece of silverware as the impressive victory secured the 2017 Spring Season Championship.

Awkward Introductions
The Miami FC and the San Francisco faced off for the first time last week, with Miami emphatically taking a 1-0-0 lead in the all-time series.

The 7-0 drubbing is not indicative of the Deltas season thus far, as they have only dropped two matches at home and had surrendered less than a goal per match. When playing at Kezar Stadium, the Deltas are 3-2-2 and have posted two shutouts in their last two home matches.

The Miami FC has been fantastic on the road so far this season, posting a record of 5-1-1 when away from Riccardo Silva Stadium. The Orange and Blue will be looking to pick up another three points as they shoot to finish first in the Combined Standings and earn the right to host throughout the playoffs.

Teamwork Makes the Dream Work
Miami sports the top offense in the NASL with 30 goals scored. The club’s offensive prowess can be attributed to its stellar passing.

Miami FC players occupy four of the top 10 spots for total passes in the NASL, including three in the top five. Mason Trafford, Hunter Freeman and Richie rank third, fourth and fifth in the NASL with 960, 943 and 852 passes, respectively.

Through 15 matches, Miami FC players have created a staggering 183 scoring chances.

The Miami FC midfielders Dylan Mares and Kwadwo Poku have been at the forefront of this offensive explosion. The dynamic midfielders have each created 29 scoring chances for the Orange and Blue, tied for the most in the NASL.

Forward Vincenzo Rennella has also done well to not only score but also create for others. He currently leads the league with eight goals and four assist to go along with 22 chances created.

Players to Watch
Hunter Freeman has been rock solid for the Miami FC as a defender and creator.

The Tyler, Texas native has is the only field player to have played every minute of every match this season, helping lead the Orange and Blue to its first championship.

In 1,350 minutes of action, Freeman has made 52 defensive clearances, 18 interceptions, blocked 11 shots and won 39 duels, as the Miami FC posted a NASL-best 10 goals allowed.

As the club’s resident free kick specialist, Freeman has been instrumental in Miami’s offensive renaissance. The utility defender has completed 814 passes, sent in 23 crosses, created 15 scoring chances and registered one assist in 15 matches played.

Stéfano Pinho is a man on fire right now.

The Brazilian forward has netted seven goals in his last four matches, including a blistering four goal performance last week against San Francisco.

Pinho, the 2015 NASL Golden Boot winner, is a nightmare for opposing defenses with his combination of speed, tactical awareness and overall accuracy. He has but 14 of his 27 shots on target with eight finding the back of the net. He is also completed 87% of his passes for the Miami FC, having created eight scoring opportunities and registering two assists thus far.
