MIAMI (February 8, 2017) – The Miami FC is set to take on the U.S. Men’s National Team U-19 squad in their first match of the 2017 preseason.

The U-19’s are in the midst of an 8-day training camp, the first time the squad has come together in 2017. As part of the training camp, the U-19 will not only be playing the Orange and Blue, but also the El Salvador National team.

The U-19s are led by American soccer legend Brad Friedel. Friedel took over the team in January of 2016 after a distinguished national and club team career. At UCLA, Friedel won a national championship and was awarded the Hermann Trophy, given to the top player in collegiate soccer. His club career featured stops at storied clubs like Galatasaray, Newcastle, Liverpool, Blackburn Rovers, Aston Villa and Tottenham Hotspur. Friedel would also go on to make 82 appearances for the National Team, manning the goal at the 1998 and 2002 World Cups.

The 22-man U-19 roster features talent from college soccer, MLS, USL, NPSL and the Premier League. This camp is meant to find potential for the U-20 squad and the upcoming U-23 Olympic team.

The USL’s Swope Park Rangers and the MLS’ Atlanta United are the only clubs to have multiple players selected to the squad. Different clubs and divisions are represented on the squad: Seven MLS clubs, seven collegiate programs, two USL sides, and West Bromwich Albion F.C. as the sole Premier League club represented.

The Miami FC will host the U-19s on its training ground at St. Thomas University tomorrow, Thursday, February 9 at 11 a.m. The match is free and open to the public. For more information on the Miami FC and to see the rest of the preseason schedule, visit
