MIAMI, Fla. – The Miami FC hosted the New York Cosmos, Saturday night, at Ocean Bank Field. The Miami FC created plenty of chances, but blocked shots would see the Miami FC fall to the Cosmos 3-0.

"This is our first season," said head coach Alessandro Nesta. "We put the team together quickly so there are going to be growing pains."

The match started out slow with both sides playing strong defense.

The Cosmos opened the scoring in the 18th minute when Juan Arango headed home a Hunter Freeman cross.

The Miami FC pushed back right away, creating a great chance in the 21st minute. Calvin Rezende thundered past the Cosmos backline, finding space down the left flank. He then played a great pass to Blake Smith but his shot was blocked inside the box.

Miami FC goalkeeper, Daniel Vega came up with two big saves as the Cosmos pushed for a second goal. He was quick to stop a near post shot and had to come off his line to end a New York fast break.

Unfortunately, the Cosmos would score again in the 34th minute. A Borrajo clearance fell at the feet of the Cosmos’ Gabriel Farfan who finished the chances, putting the Miami FC down 2-0.

Just before half time, Smith found space down the left side and whipped in a cross for Dario Cvitanich, but Cvitanich could not get the chance on target.

After 45 minutes of action, the Miami FC trailed the Cosmos 2-0.

Halftime substitute Jaime Chavez wasted no time making his mark, playing a dangerous cross just a minute into the second half.

The Cosmos would score again in the 50th minute, after a Carlos Mendes long ball put Jairo Arrieta 1v1 with Vega, sneaking the ball past the onrushing keeper.

Dane Richards put the Miami FC in great scoring position in the 65th minute with a strong cross. The ball fell to Adailton first but he could not corral it. He then put the ball back into the box but the Miami FC was called off side.

Five minutes later, Chavez again got out on the break and found Cvitanich near the top of the box but the shot went wide right.

Vega continued to have a strong night despite allowing three goals, picking up three key saves over a 10-minute stretch.

With time running out, Man of the Match Calvin Rezende fought his way in to the box but again the shot would be blocked.

When it was all said and done the Miami FC fell to the Cosmos 3-0.

"Today was a tough day but all we can do is work to get better," added Nesta. "I believe we can do better than our performance today."

The Miami FC is back in action, Saturday, May 14 when they hit the road to take on the Carolina RailHawks.
