RECAP: MARTINEZ DELIVERS AS MIAMI FC DEFEATS RAYO OKC IN PRESEASON SCRIMMAGE

Mar 12, 2016
MIAMI, Fla. – A solid defensive performance and a goal by new signee, midfielder Ariel Martinez, gives the Miami FC their seventh preseason victory with a 1-0 result over Rayo OKC.

The Miami FC came into the match coming off a 2-1 loss to North Florida rivals Jacksonville Armada FC. Head Coach Alessandro Nesta tried a new lineup today that came out aggressive and determined to win.

At the beginning of the first half, forward Jaime Chavez went one-on-one with RAYO goalkeeper but his shot went wide. The pressure continued and Miami FC goalkeeper Daniel Vega was challenged a few times early in the half but made significant saves keeping the score nil-nil.

Martinez recorded the first real chance of the game in the 28th minute. A fast recovery by midfielder Dane Richards allowed for a pass to Martinez who took a shot from the left side of the box putting it past the goalie, notching his first official goal for the club.

The Miami FC started and ended the match with an attacking mindset, while also finding balance on the defense to shut out fellow expansion side, Rayo OKC.

"Well done guys, very good game,” head coach Nesta said. “You guys came out here and decided to have fun, played simple, and we got a result.”

Head coach Nesta congratulated the players and urges the team to focus and finish the preseason on a high note.
